In ‘a space’ arts’ 25th year, Co-founder and Director, Daniel Crow has become an Honorary Fellow at Southampton Solent University.
Awarded on Tuesday 8 July, during the University’s 2025 graduation week, the Honorary Fellowship has been given in recognition of Daniel’s ongoing contribution to Southampton’s thriving arts community.
Instrumental in providing bespoke support for both emerging and established artists in the city, ‘a space’ arts – which Daniel co-founded in 2000 – has played a key role in supporting hundreds of early-careers artists, including many from Southampton Solent University. On receiving this honour, Daniel says:
“It is an honour to become a fellow of Southampton Solent University, and I am humbled at their recognition of our work in the city to support visual artists and cultural audiences. The creative talent SSU educates brings a vital supply of new artists and creatives to the city each year and we are always keen to support them on the next steps of their journey post education. Through being an Honorary Fellow I hope to have even closer ties with the University and look forward to working with them for many more years to come.”
As Director of ‘a space’ arts, Daniel has been a driving force behind Southampton’s cultural rejuvenation, which has taken place across the last two decades. From transforming disused buildings into exhibition spaces and studios for artists, to more recently overseeing the restoration of God’s House Tower, the city has become a central hub for visual artists.
At the heart of Daniel’s work is community cohesion; many of the projects he leads are accessible, free, and designed to engage a wide range of people. At Solent, Daniel is Chair of the Creative Industries Impact Board, which aims to cultivate collaboration between education and industry to create positive opportunities for both the city and its students.
As an Honorary Fellow at Solent, Daniel highlights to creative students what is possible when you pursue your passion.
