Southampton Solent University's MSc Strength and Conditioning course has been accredited for the first time by the International Universities Strength and Conditioning Association (IUSCA).
This new recognition highlights the course's high quality, aligning it with teaching standards on both a national and international scale. The accreditation will have great benefits for students, who now have the opportunity to gain a certificate as an IUSCA Accredited International Strength and Conditioning Practitioner (aiSCP). This additional qualification will enhance career prospects for graduates, appealing to employers in the fields of sport and health.
Course Leader Adam Lewis, says:
"At Southampton Solent University, we are proud that our master's in strength and conditioning has attained the prestigious IUSCA degree accreditation in its first year of running. This accreditation is a global standard that values knowledge, skills and experience, which aligns perfectly with our own practice-led teaching philosophy.Â
"This recognition is a testament to our skilled staff, highly practical modules, fantastic facilities and real-world coaching opportunities. It will allow students to graduate with an internationally recognised certification, ready for employment."
Solent's MSc Strength and Conditioning degree gives students the additional skills they need to thrive in a variety of settings, from sports clubs to schools and colleges. Graduates leave with highly valued knowledge which they can use to work alongside elite athletes, or in rehabilitation settings. The course also benefits from strong industry connections, including the University's ongoing partnership with Southampton Football Club.
The IUSCA, which launched in 2019 in response to the increasing number of degrees which focus on strength and conditioning, ensure that students receive the very highest standard of learning in this area. Their accreditation of Solent's own master's degree signals the quality of the University's offering. Andrew Langford, Director of the IUSCA, says:
"We are delighted to award IUSCA Degree Accreditation to Southampton Solent University's MSc in Strength and Conditioning. To achieve this level of recognition in the programme's first year is a testament to the University's commitment to high-quality, practice-led education. Solent's emphasis on applied learning, industry engagement, and professional development aligns strongly with the IUSCA framework, and their integration of the aISCP*m certification ensures that graduates are equipped with both academic excellence and the practical experience required to thrive in the field."Â
