Top Tips for Podcasting

What is a Podcast?

The exact definition of what a podcast is has yet to be decided on by academics. However, the most basic definition found states that a podcast is a form of audio entertainment that is able to be streamed and is also downloadable. Creating a podcast is a fun way to explore your interests and connect with others who also have opinions on your discussion topics.

What else goes into making a successful podcast?

Making the actual podcast is just the beginning of your journey as a podcaster. You also need to promote it. There are many ways to do this, and the Level 5 students (Year 2) were tasked with uploading their podcasts to platforms that are viewable by the public in their podcasting module. But how do we promote our podcasts?

Top Tips

1. Create an audiogram – An audiogram is a promotional piece of content for your podcast, like a trailer. This will allow the listeners to get a feel for what the podcast is about. You can post it on social media platforms such as LinkedIn to help boost your viewership.

 

1. Use original artwork – To make your podcast stand out, why not use original artwork for your main image? Alternatively, if you don’t consider yourself to be particularly artistic, think about how you could create one on Photoshop that embodies the topics of your podcast episodes.

 

1. Utilise social media to promote your podcast – Whether you are creating one as part of the Media Production course or just making one for fun, promoting your podcast will drive its success! Furthermore, it can become part of your online portfolio so that future employers can view your work. Posting promotional content will also demonstrate that you understand the basics of marketing, which is vital for the media industry.
