Solent University’s fashion courses have recently launched an exciting new guest speaker initiative, celebrating the success of alumni. The talks titled ‘Celebrating Solent Success’ run the third week of every month, and are open to all students regardless of the course they are studying.

The exciting talk series centres around igniting honest, inspiring and exciting conversation, whilst helping to carve out your career path – all with advice from our recent alumni who share their real career journeys and lessons they have learnt along the way.

Sasha Halsey, Lecturer in Fashion at Solent said: “So far we have had alumni share their stories from areas including marketing, media and buying, from companies such as Leni’s Agency, ASOS, I SAW IT FIRST and Superdrug. During each webinar we hear about how they have taken the skills from their degree to start their career journey and reflecting on what they have learnt along the way. Coming up over the series, we will hear about creative image making, what it is like working as a freelancer, make-up artist, photographer, fine artist, graphic designer and starting up your own business.

The creative and collaborative community that is fostered at Solent during the three years of study truly extends into the workplace after graduation. The series showcases how each class becomes their own network in industry, and eventually will be working alongside one another in creative fields. Inviting our alumni back highlights and celebrates these successes across the fashion, art and beauty subjects, and really demonstrates the journey our students have taken so we can all celebrate their success.”

Emma Pritchard, Senior Lecturer in Fashion Management said: “The alumni speaker series provides the opportunity for the School and University to shine a spotlight on the Graduate Outcomes survey in a positive and supportive manner. The series allows alumni to not only talk with current students but also to other alumni, about their diverse career journeys alumni have taken since graduation.

We hope the series will not only inspire the current student cohort, but also highlight to the alumni just how focused their degree journey was on developing highly skilled graduates and enhancing graduate outcomes.”
