This year’s annual student-organised ‘Meet the Professionals’ event was Solent’s biggest yet, with more than 30 PR, advertising and marketing professionals on hand to share their expertise with students.

A huge worry for many undergraduates is whether they’ll find a job after their degree. The Meet the Professionals event helps prepare students for life after university, enabling them to communicate with professionals in their industry and prepare for their future career.

Following talks by professionals and alumni from a range of industries, including CIPR President Jason MacKenzie, students networked with professionals for tips on getting a placement, being successful and many more topics.

Rebecca Henderson previously studied MA (Hons) Public Relations and Multimedia Communications at Solent, and attended for the third year as PR practitioner at Lee Peck Media. She says: “Georgia, this year’s PR student organiser, did exceptionally well to have grown the event again.

“The Spark building is a big space to fill and this year was the biggest the event has been, with some very impressive PR and creative companies in attendance.”

Jade Artaud, studying BA (Hons) Public Relations and Communications, adds: “I was grateful the university organised this event – it allowed me to network and learn from PR professionals.

“I enjoyed the talks about the PR industry and the difference between working in house and agency. This is particularly relevant for me, as I’m looking to work in a PR agency.”
