Southampton Solent University’s BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science degree is celebrating reaccreditation from the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) - making it the city’s only institution with this endorsement.
Solent’s reaccreditation – signalling the high standard of the University’s teaching and facilities in this area – follows their recent investment in a new biomedical laboratory as well as high scores* in the 2024 National Student Survey.
The University’s reaccreditation, which covers the next five years, highlights the course’s relevance, continuously adapting and evolving to meet contemporary trends and requirements in the field of biomedical science.
Solent’s Biomedical Science degree gives budding scientists the practical and theoretical knowledge they need to help them make their mark in the field. Having just introduced a brand-new laboratory, which was developed with £1m of funding from the Office for Students, Solent continues to equip learners – in this case, scientists of the future – with the skills required to help answer pressing scientific questions of today.
Course Leader Biomedical Science at Solent, Dr Jamil Jubrail, says:
“We couldn’t be happier to have been reaccredited by the IBMS. This achievement reflects the high standards of teaching across the team and the entire team’s commitment to ensure our students receive the quality of education required to transform them into exceptional biomedical scientists ready to contribute to the local community.
“IBMS accreditation gives our course a unique selling point, and is essential for our students, allowing them to graduate and immediately enter the workplace. The support from the IBMS for our course has been fantastic and we are excited to continue to work with them as the course grows and develops further.”
This accreditation also ensures that course graduates have the opportunity to be registered by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), enhancing their career pathways and enabling them to become fully qualified biomedical scientists.
With a suite of facilities which boast the latest equipment, both students and staff at Solent have the resources to carry out important research on Solent’s city-centre campus, including into universal healthcare issues such as asthma.
