For our virtual events, please check your emails for start times. We find it best to join a few minutes earlier to have a look around our page.

What time do I need to get there?

When you arrive you'll need to register in The Spark building at our East Park Terrace campus (SO14 0YN). Registration opens at 9am. Our team will give you a quick welcome talk and a copy of the programme.

Where do I need to go when I arrive?

Our on-campus parking is limited, so we recommend using the Grosvenor Square Multi-Storey Car Park (SO15 2BE) or Bedford Place Multi-Storey Car Park (SO15 2TZ) which are a short walk from the East Park Terrace Campus (SO14 0YN).
If you are a Blue Badge holder and require parking on campus, please <a href="mailto:opendays@solent.ac.uk">get in touch with our team</a> and we can ensure a space is reserved for you.

Where can I park on the day?

We asked our student ambassadors about their highlights. They recommend taking a guided campus and residence tour and especially attending the course talks or tasters, where you'll be able to meet your potential academics and peers and delve deeper into your course of study.

What shouldn't I miss?

Yes! We have a number of outlets open throughout the campus that offer a range of food and drinks. We also have special open day deals and discounts! Free tea, coffee and water is also available too and we'll also have our on campus Starbucks and Costa Coffee open.&nbsp;

Will I be able to get something to eat on campus?

To ensure the event is safe and that we can see as many prospective students as possible, we ask that you bring a maximum of four guests per booking with you to the open day.

How many guests can I bring?

All of our facilities will be open and most of them will let you get up close and personal with some of the kit you may be using during your studies. Keep an eye out for demonstrations from our current students too!

Will I be able to use any of the course facilities when I'm there?

Yes. Student residences will be open from 9.30am to 3.30pm. Our free shuttle service will depart from outside the library every 30 minutes until 3pm, or you can walk down through our lovely parks. Our ambassadors in red t-shirts can help you find your way.
Please note: students can tour the residences with one other guest only. Any other guests in attendance are welcome to make use of the activities on campus during this time.

Will the student residences be available?

Yes. Do you offer additional support for those with access requirements or neurodiversity?

Our virtual open days aim to offer you the same information as an on-campus open day, but from the comfort of your home. These are particularly useful for international applicants, or if you want to get a feel for Solent before coming to an on-campus open day.
After you've registered, you'll be sent a link to the virtual open day page which has links to information such as accommodation, student support, the city of Southampton, our facilities, virtual campus tours, and more!
Course talks are held on Teams - you'll hear from your course leader and you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your chosen area of study.

How does a virtual open day work?

Yes! We hold open days for undergraduate, postgraduate, apprenticeships, and officer cadetship (careers at sea) applicants.
At these open days you'll find tailored information relating to the type of study you're interested in and our course teams and support teams can offer help and advice for all.

Do you run open days for all types of study?

You don't need to bring anything specific with you. But you may find it useful to bring a notebook and pen to jot down answers to any questions you've asked, or for making a note of any other useful information.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

You can stay for as long as you need. There are talks and activities taking place throughout the day so feel free to plan your day to suit you. But please be aware of the time of your course talk and tasters.
You can also leave the campus to take a look around the city centre to get a feel for Southampton before returning for more open day activities or talks.

Do I need to stay all day?

There's plenty of help available if you need pointing in the right direction to get to your course talk or anywhere else on campus. Our student ambassadors are present all over campus and will be more than happy to guide you - they're easy to spot in their red t-shirts or hoodies.

Meet your lecturers and course mates while delving deeper into your chosen subject. If you're unsure what you want to study, the course talks are run twice on the day so you can go to more than one. Some of our open days also include the opportunity to attend a course taster, offering a hands-on, interactive experience of studying your chosen course.&nbsp;

This is for those employed by a gym or similar - salaries could rise to &pound;35,000. Freelance instructors could earn between &pound;20 and &pound;40 per hour.

For exercise physiologists working in the sports sector. Clinical exercise physiologists working in the NHS would typically start at the lower end of the Band 5 (&pound;27,055 to &pound;32,934) and will need to gain a considerable amount of experience to progress up the pay scale.

Private sector starting salaries can range between &pound;23,000 and &pound;30,000.

The role exercise and nutrition plays in healthy ageing and disease reduction has become a focus for national health policy in recent times. Government and NHS policy is shifting toward 'social prescribing', which research has shown to often be more effective at lifestyle-related disease control than drugs.
This has led to increased demand for practitioners skilled in clinical exercise rehabilitation, health nutrition and behaviour change psychology.
A recent survey conducted with employers of the health and fitness industry identified that current training is insufficient and lacks proper insight into medical conditions, nutrition and psychology. Training should also offer students access to real-life patients/clients. Our BSc (Hons) Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science course responds to both the results of this survey and to the increasing need for suitably trained individuals in the health and well-being sector.

The skills you&rsquo;ll develop on this course open up a wide range of career opportunities. Graduates have a wealth of career options to choose from, such as personal trainer, nutrition adviser (health and exercise science), exercise referral practitioner, health physiologist, and occupational therapist.
The course allows you access to postgraduate study in nutrition, where you can gain fully accredited status to the AfN, as well as many other postgraduate courses in physiotherapy, dietetics, and public health.
