Tell us why you went through Clearing

I originally applied to a lot of quite high level drama schools which weren't looking for actors of my type since I am a character actor rather than a 'leading man'. I then got on to a course at my local college but unfortunately there were not enough people there to run the course. I was informed of this after the UCAS deadline so had to apply through Clearing to Solent University.

How did you find the Clearing process at Solent?

I found it very simple with clear instructions to follow. I had to go through an audition process for my course which was very quick and simple and I was given feedback promptly. The Clearing helpline was incredibly helpful and the operator was always clear with what steps I needed to take with my application and letting them know my results.

What advice would you give to those going through the Clearing process?

I would say my biggest advice is to remain calm. Waiting for A-level results and applying for university is understandably a very stressful time but the Clearing team at Solent are so, so helpful and can help guide if you get stuck at any point. You're not alone going through it so there will be lots of advice online if you get into a panic.

What are your favourite bits of your degree, and the biggest challenges?

I love the collaboration on my course. I have worked with the third years on their final musical and have had so much fun and learnt so much. Every one of my lecturers are incredible and have supported me throughout this year.

The biggest challenge I've had is the written element, since its not my strong suit, but James (one of our lecturers) has helped so much with online one-to-one meetings and example essays to help with structure.

What are your future career plans?

I would either like to become an actor/writer and create my own works, or go into teaching drama. I'm hoping to fully create a future plan in the next two years.
