Solent Ravens is Solent University’s cheer and dance Society, welcoming athletes of all abilities and experience levels. Our society provides opportunities to train, compete nationally, and be part of a supportive and inclusive team environment.
The Ravens are made up of five teams: jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, gameday, and non-tumble competition cheer level 2 (NT comp L2). Our gameday team performs dance, stunts, and cheers at a variety of Solent sporting events, primarily supporting the Solent Kestrels basketball team. Our jazz, lyrical, hip-hop, and NT comp L2 teams compete at three national competitions each year.
The entire society comes together annually to perform at both the indoor and outdoor Solent Varsity events, giving every athlete the opportunity to represent Solent. The Ravens also host weekly socials, sober socials, and fundraisers throughout the season.
Competitions
Solent Ravens competes in three national university competitions each season, typically between February and March. These include:
- Future Cheer University Nationals
- Legacy University Nationals
- ICC University Cheer and Dance Championship
Competitions are usually held in Manchester, Birmingham, and Telford.
2025/26 season
Memberships
Solent Ravens operates on a membership fee basis. Membership fees cover competition entry costs and travel expenses for competitions. There is also a one-off £20 university affiliation fee that each athlete of Solent needs to pay. The fees below are based on the previous year’s season and are subject to change. These fees include your entry to three competitions, travel to and from all three competitions and extra training sessions at a professional cheer gym. On top of memberships, athletes must buy a compulsory training T-Shirt and their uniforms/ costumes. There is also the option for a stretch & flex membership only, which last year was £30, and a social membership which allows you to attend our weekly socials, sober socials and fundraisers, which was also £30.

- 2 competition teams: £315
- 3 competition teams: £420
- Gameday only: £65
- Grant club affiliation fee: £20
Training times
Solent Ravens delivers approximately eight training sessions per week across five teams.
Current dance training schedule:
- Lyrical: Mondays, 4-6pm (Immersive Dance Company)
- Hip-hop: Tuesdays, 4-6pm (Immersive Dance Company)
- Stretch and flex (all teams): Tuesdays, 6.30-8.30pm (location TBC)
- Jazz: Thursdays, 4-6pm (Immersive Dance Company)
Competition cheer and gameday training times are currently to be confirmed, but they each typically train twice a week.
