Sport and tourism senior lecturer Rhian Jones had the opportunity to collaborate on and influence the development and implementation of the new sport event and tourism foundation year. She brought a new perspective when she joined the School of Sport, Health and Social Sciences in 2008.
Rhian studied as an undergraduate at the University, then known as the Southampton Institute. As a watersports aficionado, she completed a HND before obtaining her BA in maritime leisure management.
After a few years gaining valuable professional experience, Rhian concentrated her career on education. She undertook teacher training qualifications in Winchester, where she subsequently gained her first teaching experience on the sport and outdoor courses until joining Solent University.
Rhian currently teaches on the sport and tourism programmes at the University. Along with this, Rhian obtained her MA in professional development in 2008. This included a range of topics from youth in the outdoors to the marketing of the extreme sports degree at Solent.
Her many interests include hockey and football, and her passion for watersports is ever growing.
Rhian teaches on BA (Hons) Sport Coaching and Development and BA (Hons) Sports Studies.
