Biography

Sally first taught on the public relations and communication degree in 2003. Since then she has worked exclusively on the degree, becoming course leader in 2012. Sally’s key areas of focus for the degree are employability and student engagement, for which she has established an outstanding reputation. Sally’s specialist subject areas encompass public relations, internal communication, organisational behaviour, digital PR and employability. 

As well as her course leadership responsibilities, Sally is the University’s link tutor for the professional development programmes at the Institute of Internal Communication. 

Prior to starting at Solent University, Sally worked as an internal communication manager at NTL (now Virgin Media). Here she managed the development of an internal communications approach for the corporate support areas, in line with the company's communications strategy.

    • STAR Award (2013) Outstanding teaching for employability and personal development. 
    • A personal highlight of her time as course leader was the degree becoming number one in the country for student satisfaction in both 2013, 2014 and 2015*, as well as achieving 100% graduate employment (DHLE 2013).

  2. Industry experience

    Sally has extensive experience of work within the communications industry. This section contains more information about Sally’s work history and any advantageous industry links she maintains.

    During her time at NTL Sally instigated the implementation of online communication channels in addition to supporting the management team through numerous transformation programmes, including a redundancy programme done under extreme time constraints to remove costs, prior to the year-end.

    Prior to working for the corporate area she worked for ntl:home, contributing to the success of the price change programme that increased incremental revenue by £100 million.
