Sabrina Vieth: We're here today for the 3-day workshops called the course redesign sprint and they're part of a major course revalidation and change project for Solent University. Edd Bolton: It helps academics to rethink the way they're teaching to be very critical in a fast-paced manner. Do something that's outside their comfort zone. So to create engaging content for our future learners.

Sabrina: On day one of the sprints, the course teams redesign their courses. And the sprint methodology really always starts with empathy. So the question is, who are your learners? What's important to them? What challenges them? And then we take it from there. Edd: And as we break up these small steps, we build a fuller picture that enables us to more effectively design great learning. Gary Wallace: The workshops are lots of short sharp activities to kind of challenge existing thinking a lot of it. The temptation is just to take an existing course and squeeze it into the new format. So challenging us to rethink what we do, how we do it, how it impacts the students is a really valuable opportunity to make the student experience dramatically better.

Carina Buckley: So we're on day two now and we've reviewed all of the course structures and today we're doing the module structures and the assessments and then tomorrow we're going to hear all about these new courses that are being designed. So quite exciting.

Sabrina: Yeah. So on day three the course teams will have some time to refine their content of their courses and then we will actually bring in some student partners and more colleagues from the university and then our course teams will pitch their newly developed courses to their peers and student partners to get some feedback

Solent student: I think redesigning a course is essential because things change so quickly, technology advances. Sabrina: The main driver for us is to make sure that our curricula are practice led and that means that they informed by industry and that they prepare our students for real life and work experience. So that means that our curriculara have to be authentic and they have to be assessed authentically and that is at the core of what we're doing.
