Today is the SLTR conference. It's the opportunity for academics at Southampton Solent to come together and share the work that they're doing, the interesting research that's going on and for lecturers across different fields and different subjects to hear from other lecturers and other colleagues about what they're doing in their particular field.

The conference is about advances in teaching and learning. In particular, this year they're looking at AI and how it's impacting students, teaching staff, courses, assessments, and such like. So, the advantage here is that we can now see how other areas, other colleges and universities are adapting and what ideas they've got.

It's been really interesting to see the way that other colleagues are adapting so quickly to a changing landscape, especially with AI, but also in other areas, different types of learners coming through and really how quickly we have to adapt to a changing landscape.

I think there are a couple of highlights for me that we've seen today. One has been the lightning round of presentations. So we launched the Solent Education Innovation Project this year and that ranges from AI fairy tales, the University record label that's been in the works and of course the 'doom room' that has been happening with our nursing simulation team. So some really excellent innovations in education.

It's always really lovely to catch up with colleagues that I may not have seen for a few months especially with end of term and exams and marking. So it's just a really lovely celebration of of the work.

This afternoon we have the student led teaching awards and they mean so much because they really are the voice of the students. To win an award that you know has come from the students means everything because it means you're doing something right. It means that you are connecting with them and they are enjoying the learning that they are getting from you. So it's a really creative engaging day and it's been fantastic listening to so many interesting people and hearing about the work they're doing.
