Hello. We are the student funding team. We offer advice and guidance to prospective and current students on all aspects of the government student finance system, eligibility for state benefits, and the additional grants and bursaries available from the University.

The student funding advisors provide advice on a wide range of topics including eligibility for the government tuition fee and maintenance loans, applying for independent status, and special support loans and grants for dependents. If you need guidance on the impact on student finance of suspending or withdrawing from studies, including for compelling personal reasons, we can support you in that journey. We can also help with looking into any NHS funding; applying for state benefits, including Universal Credit; personal independent payments; as well as federal aid for American students.

The student funding advisor can carry out financial health checks to ensure that you have been assessed correctly for student finance and are receiving all the statutory and additional university funding available to you. We can contact student finance with you to discuss any queries and, if appropriate, refer you to specialist organisations. We are aware of the increased cost of living for students and have additional university grants and bursaries that are available. These include financial support for students with dependants, those with caring responsibilities, care experienced and estranged students, as well as those who have extra course costs and utility bills, and those who require IT equipment or a diagnostic assessment. We also offer support to students who would like to do an unpaid placement or volunteering, as well as a general support grant for those in financial difficulty. We work closely with other departments including the Student Hub, disability advice team, income team, and student registry. When advising you we ensure that we provide the best service to you.
