You don't need to come in with any maritime knowledge or background at all. Because of the way the course was structured with the academics, the practical and the time away at sea, by the time you reach the end of it you have a very good understanding of what the job is and you come out absolutely knowing what it is you have to do, when you step into that job on day one.
Alumnus of FDSC Marine Operations Adam James, is sat in the Spark building at Solent University. He also talks over cutaways of shipping ports with large container ships as well as crew working on ships. There are also cutaways of Solent University facilities including the Maritime Simulation centre, Marine Engineering workshops and students working on lifeboats.

We've got practical parts of the course and we also go to sea, which means we get a kind of opportunity to do everything and get out and about on the water as well which is good. I love the facilities at Solent, it's really good learning environments.

They care so much about what they do because they're from the industry themselves as well, they understand it, they've had experience at sea and because they've had that experience it makes it almost more relatable.
