Sport coaching is an exciting career and helping people is at the heart of what we do, whether it's helping children learn a new sport, helping communities tackle social challenges or helping athletes improve their performance and win medals, there's something for everyone. The BSc Sport Coaching degree has been designed to meet the needs of industry.

We have aligned the modules to ensure it meets the professional standards laid out by CIMPSA, who are the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity, they're the professional development body for UK sport and physical activity sector.

With this course we have achieved CIMPSA endorsement, meaning it meets the standards required by industry for the profession of Coach, but also for the specialisms of working in the community environment, working in high performance sport and the technical specialism of safeguarding and protecting children. This means that when you graduate you will have the recognition of having studied a course that is ready for employment and ready to hit the ground running.

The unique aspect of this sport coaching degree is how it applies the knowledge, to provide you with real life experience throughout. There is a coaching module every semester providing you with lots of opportunity to support and develop your coaching knowledge and skills, and to gain experience applying what you learn directly into your professional practice.

We have embedded some coaching qualifications into the modules allowing you to earn recognised certifications within the degree. Our flagship module is the final year unit, 'High Performance Coaching', and this runs throughout the whole year. This module helps you develop your own portfolio of achievements, not just in coaching but also learning from more experienced coaches who can help you reflect and develop your own coaching practice. Students will get to use some great facilities here at Solent, from our Sports Complex with a large multi-use sports hall, to the performance hall that's designed specifically for basketball. Our teaching gyms that have everything a commercial gym would have. Our high performance gym where the scholarship athletes receive s and c, (strength and conditioning), training, our BASES accredited laboratories such as the biomechanics lab and all of the amazing equipment it contains. We have a performance analysis suite with specialist equipment for capturing and coding gameplay. Our state-of-the-art classrooms in the gorgeous Spark building and our extremely well stocked libraries with computer access and even quiet study areas.

Not only that, but our campus is positioned right in the heart of the city of Southampton, so all of the best shops, restaurants and entertainment venues and nightlife is right on your doorstep. With such great facilities and a long reputation in the local area for offering support services to sports teams and athletes, there are a whole host of opportunities for students.

For example, we have close partnership with Southampton Football Club through their charitable arm, The Saints Foundation, we're able to place students delivering community-based projects and benefit from guest speakers from industry. We also have a strong sports club representation in university competitions. This creates a huge number of opportunities with so many athletes who need coaching and supporting on a weekly basis. There are so many ways a student can get involved.

We also work hard to create opportunities where none may currently exist. This course offers a range of topics that provide entry to a whole host of related careers, from Sports Coach, to S and C, (Strength and conditioning Coach), Performance Analyst, Sport Development Officer and even P.E. Teacher. We've even had some graduates go on to start their own businesses, such as sports camps for children or coaching in their own after schools club.

If you're currently studying a A-level P.E. or B-Tech in something like sport or sport and exercise, then you'll feel this course is a natural progression and continues with the topics you enjoy, just at a deeper level of understanding and much more geared towards utilising that knowledge in placements and gaining real world experience to ensure you are work ready and future ready by the time you graduate. This course will really benefit any student with a passion for sport, whether that's as a coach, an athlete, or an official, or behind the scenes helping to get people excited about the sports and the things about it that you enjoy.
