So the law program at Solent is different to some universities in that we focus on the real authentic delivery - making sure that students are learning to be lawyers, not just the law. And students are taught in class with professional activities, so, you're not taught about advocacy, you do advocacy. You're not taught about drafting, you do drafting.
Business and Law Course Leader Law, Brad Kershaw is talking to camera. Some images of students in the law court room are overlayed.

The law course has helped us get prepped for the SQE in various ways, one of them being the legal cheeks platform. So they did a talk with us, with people that are currently doing SQE1, SQE2 prep. So they've gone over ways that we revise, that we could be revising, even as a second year things that we can be getting on with. So, everything that we've done last year they already gave us prompt ideas to basically keep revising those because it will appear.

I think this course is helping me take my career the way I want to go, by giving me all those transferable skills - client facing, problem solving. Even after I graduate I'll be able to go into other areas not just law and I'm really grateful for that.

So, the essence of the three courses - well, in the past this really comes from student demand - we're very much a university that likes to be able to say 'you said, we did'. So, when we went and visited colleges we frequently found students were thinking about law but maybe also criminology and maybe also business. So you've got those three options now. Every single one of them will give you a qualifying law degree. That means you get an LLB honors after your name, it's always one of the most employable postnominals that you can have. But, if you want to study business it means you get a sprinkling of business in there as well and you'll be taught by our expert business law lecturers, across management, project design, marketing etc. Or indeed criminology, where you'll be taught by former police officers, currently still practicing police officers and our expert criminology staff on things like why crime happens and forensics and global crime and media and crime and so on. So, it makes sure that you get the law degree that you want but also, with the sprinkling of the interest that you have as well, without having to decide to do a BSc or a BA instead of the LLB. And alongside that are industry and corporation. So just as an example, next month the students have six different spotlight events with five different organisations coming in to do anything with them from drafting workshops, drafting competitions, mock trials, master classes, all from our local industry partners who are incredibly generous with their time. So it's all about making sure students are as developed as possible but also their CVs are built as well as possible and they'r networked as well as possible. I would say that's why we currently sit at around 83% of our graduates go on to highskilled employment or further education within 15 months.
