What is Clearing?

Clearing is a last-minute way of applying to university. Clearing opens every year in early July and continues through to September, or when universities have no more places available. As places on courses are limited, it helps to have a plan and apply as early as possible.

There are four main reasons why you might apply to university through Clearing:

  • you’re applying to university for the first time after 30 June,
  • you haven’t met the conditions of your current offers,
  • you declined your firm offer through UCAS,
  • or, you didn’t receive (or accept) any offers in UCAS.

Clearing can be broken down into three simple stages:

  • Researching courses
  • Contacting universities
  • Confirming your offer on UCAS Track

If you think you might want to apply for a university place through Clearing this year, it’s a good idea to start researching your options now rather than waiting until your results come through. Sign-up for our email tips and support and we’ll guide you through the whole process.
