About the course

Got a passion for gaming? Want to turn your existing HND qualification or experience into a full honours degree? This one-year top-up degree course will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue a career in an industry that is seeing record growth, both in the UK and globally.

Students will learn from established academics and industry professionals, developing game ideas from early concept through to finished product.

Starting with fundamental design tools, students focus on creating and prototyping compelling games that engage players and offer exciting experiences. In addition, students study the production pipeline and build computer games using state-of-the-art game engines.

Throughout this top-up, students will explore ways to develop unique game controllers. The opportunity to work in a motion capture studio, experience virtual reality or even build an independent game development studio is also built into the curriculum.

With an emphasis on employability, the course isn’t just focused on the practical elements of game creation. Students also learn all the commercial tools and techniques of game development, from pitching ideas to publishing completed games. Industry links are a key element of the course, and students are encouraged to attend conferences and network with game trade associations. The course also benefits from regular talks from visiting industry professionals.
