Apprenticeship funding

How are apprenticeships funded?

One of the biggest benefits of studying on an apprenticeship is that you, the apprentice (and employee), don't have to pay any tuition fees as these are covered by your employer.

As your fees are covered by your employer, this does mean that you are not eligible for any of the University support grants or bursaries, or for any government student finance or maintenance loans, including disabled student allowance (DSA).

Please note, students outside of the UK are not entitled to Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) funding. For further information, please contact us or speak to your employer.

Am I eligible for disability support?

Apprentices with disabilities are able to access the University's support services. If you are eligible, the University can provide support, which could include:

  • Support to explore diagnostic assessments, including screening.
  • Learning support, which could include exam support, assistive technology and 1-to-1 support.
  • Providing information to the course team and placement about support needs and reasonable adjustments.

What if I require qualifications to complete my apprenticeship?

Certain qualifications may be required for you to complete your apprenticeship (for example, maths and English GCSE, or equivalent). If you don't hold these qualifications, you may be referred to one of our partners who will provide you with training to help you gain them. The training cost and the exam cost are all covered by the University, so you will not have to pay for it (UK students only)

What about any other costs I may incur?

If you have any queries about other costs not outline above, you will need to discuss these with your employer to determine if you are eligible for support.
