Welcome to Solent University!

The welcome induction for international and EU students starts on Thursday 13 September 2018 with activities run through to the start of Welcome Week for UK students. During induction, you will have the chance to settle in and engage in informative and fun activities with other international students.

Airport meet and greet

There will be a free international airport pick up for eligible students on Wednesday 12 September. It is a fantastic opportunity to meet new friends and arrive at the door of your new accommodation.

The free service will run between Gatwick and Heathrow airports and students may be required to wait for their departure or make stops with the coach. Final departure schedules will be emailed to students booked onto the service.

There are limited spaces on this service and booking is required. To book, students must have a flight booked to land at Gatwick or Heathrow airports before 5pm on Wednesday 12 September. Booking will be confirmed by email within 5 working days.

The deadline for making a booking is 31 August 2018.

Information talks for international students

During international induction and into Welcome Week, there will be information talks for international students. 

No booking is required and you only need to attend one of each talk which is relevant to you. All students with a Tier 4 student visa are required to attend at least one Tier 4 visa talk.

Vice-Chancellor's welcome and afternoon tea

Join us for an English afternoon tea for new international students and their families. The University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Graham Baldwin, will be welcoming new students to Solent.

There will also be an opportunity to meet key people from our support services and other key services within the University.

Spaces for this event are limited, so please book early.

Southampton city scavenger hunt

Make new friends by joining our Southampton city scavenger hunt on Friday 14 September. You will join a team of students and compete to discover more about Southampton and create memories of your adventure around the city. This event will be supported by Solent's Student Ambassadors.

Please book for this event by Thursday 13 September. Once you have booked you will be sent instructions on where to meet to start the scavenger hunt.

Buddy scheme - first meeting

Our international buddies understand the difficulties of moving to a new country and they're hear to listen, as well as give advice in your first month. This first meeting is very informal.

The event will take place on Friday 14 September from 4-6pm on The Bridge, located on level 4 of The Spark. There is no booking required and all students are welcome.

The scheme is supported by the Wellbeing Team in the Student Hub who offer a range of formal support services for all students. Visit them in person in the Student Hub, email them at wellbeing@solent.ac.uk or call 023 8201 3427.

Day trip to Portsmouth

Spend the day in the city of Portsmouth, one of Southampton's neighbouring cities, exploring the local area. Portsmouth is known as a seaside city with pebble beaches, a newly renovated pier and quirky cafes in the student area of Southsea. The city is also home to the Royal Navy and its new aircraft carrier, HMS Queen Elizabeth. There are a number of museums, as well as the iconic Spinnaker Tower, which contains a viewing platform looking over Hampshire and the Isle of Wight from a height of 105 metres.

There are limited spaces for this trip so please book early to avoid disappointment. You will be collected from and brought back to the East Park Terrace campus. Further details will be provided when you have booked your place.
