Southampton Solent University's School of Business, Law and Society is celebrating high rankings in the Guardian University Guide 2026.
One of the best-regarded league tables in the world, this year's guide has seen Solent rise an impressive 28 places, placing the University in the top 60 - its highest ranking to date.
Within this success, Solent's School of Business, Law and Society is celebrating course wins. Significantly, law at Solent is now ranked sixth out of 110 institutions offering courses in this area, placing the University in the top 5% nationally - making it one of the very best in the country. The subject area also ranked second for teaching satisfaction and, when it comes to careers, sits in the top 10%.*
Professor Lois Farquharson, Dean of the School of Business, Law and Society, says:
"As I settle into my new position at Solent University, it is with a great sense of pride in the fantastic results achieved in this year's Guardian University Guide. I recognise the impact our courses have, particularly in the areas of business and law, and it is a reflection of the dedicated teaching here at Solent, as well as the University's emphasis on future-ready learning and teaching."
These significant results follow the successful launch of the Solent Law Clinic; a community provision which enables students to gain practice-led experience while providing free legal advice. The clinic showcases the way Solent has both a profound impact on its local communities and the learning outcomes of students.
Elsewhere in the school, criminology courses have ranked in the top 10% country-wide when it comes to the level of dedicated resources students have access to while they learn.**
Rounding up this year's success, business management has been recognised for the positive career prospects students graduate with, ranking 23 out of 103 institutions offering the same or similar courses. Graduates in this area have gone on to work with renowned brands including Red Bull Racing and global organisations such as Deloitte.
