Solent conference and events team recognised as business leaders

Our Conference and Events team were recently named ‘Best Business Team’ at the annual CUBO Awards, an event to celebrate leading university professionals across the UK.

The award ceremony, which took place on Wednesday 27 June 2018 at Manchester Metropolitan University, recognised the achievements of those working within higher education and contributing to the strategic development, management and administration of an institution's commercial business. 

The team, who run Solent Conference Centre in the university’s prestigious ‘Spark’ building, beat off stiff competition from many other nominees from nation-wide institutions.

The award coincides with a further eleven award nominations already received by the Conference and Events team since the venue’s launch in June 2016. In November, Solent Conference Centre was also named ‘Best Conference Venue’ at the inaugural Academic Venue Awards, an event to celebrate leading events professionals across the UK.

The venue is part of a £34 million redevelopment programme by Solent University which feeds into the transformational masterplan for the city of Southampton. Located within the futuristic ‘Spark’ building, it boasts a central atrium suitable for large events, exhibitions and performances as well as a further six flexible meeting rooms which transform into conferencing suites. Two lecture theatres, a suspended meeting room named ‘The Pod’, a fine dining restaurant, a Starbucks, a shop and a delicatessen also feature on site. The venue boats a further 35 innovative classrooms which act as break-out rooms available outside of teaching hours.
