At Solent University, mature students (those aged 21 or over at the start of their course) account for one in five of our student population.
We realise that returning to study can be a daunting experience, especially if you're coming back after a long break. We want to help and support you through this transition period, to ensure you're confident and have all the required skills to see you through your qualification successfully. We offer support in managing workload commitments, assignment expectations, taking exams, making a successful university application, making new friends, and much more.
We have worked closely with other universities in the region as part of the Southern Universities Network group to produce a leaflet that may help you make the decision of whether to return to higher education study.

For further education institutions
We can deliver higher education sessions to your students at your college. We're more than happy to deliver drop-in sessions (eg, writing a personal statement) to students who are considering applying to us.
Depending on the availability of our academic staff and mature student ambassadors, we can also offer bespoke sessions covering specific subject areas. Our informative and engaging sessions will support your students through the UCAS process and help them make informed choices about their future education.
Higher education sessions include:
- finance and budgeting,
- student life,
- confidence building,
- how to choose the right course and university,
- why go to university ad post university support,
- subject specific talks,
- interview techniques, and
- academic learning skills sessions.
Contact the schools and colleges team for more information and to book an activity.
