Jaikar is a highly-qualified and experienced master mariner with expertise in ship handling (very large vessels), ship-to-ship operations, SBM operations, and oil tanker operations and transportation, along with experience in other skills such as HR crew management, payroll management, safety management, and risk management. He also holds a qualification in marine surveying (specialising in warranty surveying and superyacht surveying) from Lloyds Maritime Academy, and internal auditor certification in ISO9001.14001, OHSAS 18001 and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
Jaikar has over 19 years' sea-going experience, working with prestigious shipping companies, such as the Shipping Corporation of India and Wallem Ship Management Hong Kong, working on various types of ships.
In September 2016, Jaikar made the career transition to his second love: teaching. He is a passionate teacher and loves to impart his knowledge and training to the next generation of seafarers. He has taught on many MCA-approved maritime-related subjects, including navigation simulator training and BSc Maritime Operations at the Center of Maritime Science and Ocean Studies (CMOS),University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT). He also supervised many student dissertation projects for the MSc Maritime Operations during his time with CMOS,UTT.
Jaikar was awarded a qualification in university teaching from Ontario University. He also chaired the sub-committee for developing a management level course (for mates and master) and successfully drafted the validation document for same for approval by the MCA. He carried out the first inter-review (audit) of the CMOS, UTT new quality management system, which was highly appreciated by senior management and instrumental in preparation for an external audit by the MCA.
Jaikar joined Solent's Warsash School of Maritime Science and Engineering as a senior lecturer in ship handling and pilotage in September 2019.
