Dr Janet Bonar

Course Leader

School of Maritime Science and Engineering

023 8201 3476 ext. 3476 Room no. RM424

Janet has worked extensively in research in semiconductor materials and fabrication techniques, leading to a substantial number of publications. Significant research achievements include development of defect injection technique to study dopant diffusion in Si and SiGe by Rapid Thermal Annealing (RTA), and development of epitaxial growth processes for a variety of device applications in Si, SiGe and SiGeC materials.

Her additional publications are in the areas of structural studies of semiconductors and superconductors by TEM, and electronic band structure studies of strained SiGe layers by optical spectroscopy. After moving away from research, she worked in start-up and established companies, in both engineering and operations roles. Prior to joining Solent in 2013, Janet was the semiconductor process engineering team leader at Selex ES, where she led a team of engineers to develop and support wafer and die scale semiconductor processing for production and development projects at an advanced manufacturing semiconductor specialist.

Whilst at Solent, Janet has taught maths at foundation and at level 4, as well as performing action research in maths teaching. She also teaches manufacturing and quality, and coordinates final year projects, as well as supervises projects in manufacturing and other areas.
