Biography

Laura graduated from Northumbria University in 2001 with a BA (Hons) Fashion. While studying, she undertook work placements at Katharine Hamnett and Jasper Conran.

After graduating, Laura worked for a small surf wear brand as a design assistant. From 2003, she worked for Smith & Pye, a leading specialist design agency sourcing designers and building design teams for a wide range of international fashion brands. In 2007, Laura took the PGCLTHE at Solent, and started teaching on the fashion degree programmes.

  1. Industry experience

    From 2003, Laura worked for Smith & Pye, a leading specialist design agency sourcing designers and building design teams for a wide range of international fashion brands. She was promoted to senior consultant, overseeing accounts with Arcadia, Louis Vuitton, Next and Gap. She advised brands on recruitment, and designers on their portfolio in London, New York and Paris. She also attended Graduate Fashion Week and graduate shows, handpicking the best graduates.
  2. Teaching experience

    Laura began teaching at Solent University in 2007 across all fashion related courses, specialising in creative research, trend research, illustration and design-related units.

    In 2010, Laura taught mostly on the BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion and Communication and BA (Hons) Fashion courses, again specialising in creative and design-related units such as trend forecasting, fashion illustration, garment design, portfolio units and final major projects.

    in 2017, Laura moved solely to the BA (Hons) Fashion course, teaching the second and third year students on a wide range of design projects.

    Laura's research interests lie in teaching creativity, fashion illustration and trend forecasting.
