Captain Alex Procopuk, Associate Lecturer

Biography

As a full-time master mariner and a lecturer, Captain Alex Procopuk is always keen to share his experience at sea with students, and to discuss the different scenarios with them once he is back from his ship at Solent University.

Originally from Buenos Aires, Alex moved to the United Kingdom permanently in 2004 and proudly became a British citizen in 2016.

The students are allowed to visit Alex's ship when he is on duty, which he actively encourages - all students are welcome on board at any time. Students have mentioned that the ship visits were very important for them and their development in seeing a working ship first-hand.

Alex was involved as Master in a rescue at sea, as well as a catastrophic fire in the engine room. He was able to discuss these incidents with the students and cadets to provide an excellent learning curve for them. His specialist teaching area is Ship Handling.

Alex wants to provide his students with a unique experience. It's his intention to share all his knowledge and experience with his students because their achievements are what matters most for him. As a British citizen, he wants to train a new generation of officers who are going to inherit the glorious traditions of our British Merchant Navy.

Alex is proud of his job a lecturer and serving as an active Master Mariner. He highlights to the students his commitment to maintaining the high values of Solent University.
