Gemma Burley

Biography

Gemma completed her degree in adult nursing at Plymouth University. She initially worked in an orthopaedic ward during her preceptorship, honing her general nursing skills.

Gemma then specialised in sexual health nursing, working within Plymouth’s Community Contraception and Sexual Health services (CCASH). During this time she achieved her Diploma in Sexual and Reproductive healthcare, becoming a nurse diplomate member of the FSRH.

After moving to Southampton in 2017, Gemma joined Southampton’s sexual health service, during this time she completed the STIF foundation course. Becoming a fully trained integrated sexual health nurse.

Gemma has always shown a keen interest in teaching. She became the link education nurse for Southampton sexual health, creating and delivering training for midwifes and medical students at Southampton University.

Further information

Gemma’s research interests including looking into the psycho-social aspects of STI. She is also interested in looking at the future of providing sexual health, including the impact of PREP on sexual health.
