Kola is a Senior Lecturer and the Social Science Chair of Ethics in the Department of Sport and Health at Southampton Solent University. As a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Kola brings extensive teaching and research experience across various topics within sport, sociology, and social sciences. These include globalisation, social movements, sociological perspectives, sociology of football, development theories, research methods, and social development.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Kola serves as the Level 5 Leader for the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education degree and is actively involved in several university committees. He is currently the interim Deputy Head of Department for Research and Knowledge Exchange within the Department of Sport and Health.
Kola’s research focuses on the critical intersections of sport and society, with primary interests in geopolitics and sport, race and racism in sport, and social development through sport. He frequently presents his research at national and international conferences, demonstrating his commitment to advancing knowledge and contributing to global discussions in his field.
Beyond academia, Kola has extensive experience in sport and development across diverse regions, including Africa, the UK, the Caribbean, Asia, and the USA. He has worked as a coach, researcher, development officer, and consultant, bringing a wealth of practical insight to his academic endeavours.
Kola brings a wealth of industry experience, ranging from roles as a community coach to positions in sport development across the UK, USA, and Nigeria, as well as broader development work throughout Africa.
