Role at Solent
Beverly is Interim Dean of the School of Health and Sport at Southampton Solent University. She is an influential leader in healthcare education, recognised for her strategic vision in aligning education with the evolving needs of the health and care workforce.
Experience
In her previous role as Head of School of Health Sciences at the University of Greenwich, Beverly led curriculum transformation, course expansion, staff development, and targeted widening participation initiatives, ensuring inclusive, high-quality education that meets national workforce demands and supports diverse learner success. In 2019, as the head of nursing at the University of East London, she developed the nurse and midwifery provision following her longstanding academic leadership at a central London university, where she had been a senior lecturer and course director since 2005.
Clinically, Beverly is an experienced intensive care nurse with expertise in cardio-thoracic nursing, having worked in the UK, South Africa, and Egypt. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a published scholar, co-authoring Professional Values and Practice in Introduction to Nursing for first-year students.
Her doctoral research explored the relationship between students’ learning approaches and their clinical decision-making, inspiring her to champion deep approaches to learning. She presented her findings internationally, including at the International Nursing Conference in Singapore (2015) and the European Doctoral Conference in Switzerland (2016).
Beverly is deeply committed to social mobility and educational equity, and is passionate about creating inclusive, professionally grounded learning environments that prepare graduates to thrive and deliver safe, evidence-based, and compassionate care. As a strong advocate for the transformative power of education, Beverly continues to create opportunities that inspire and empower both students and colleagues throughout their development journey.
