You'll take part in regular workshops with your fellow students and you'll also receive dedicated 1-2-1 time with your tutor.

A data engineer builds and implements data flows to connect operational systems, and re-engineer manual data flows to enable scalable and repeatable use. Data engineers integrate, support and manage the build of data streaming systems, writing extract transform and load scripts that perform in line with business requirements.
They're also responsible for providing high quality, transparent data that enables effective governance and smart business decisions; and analyse the performance indicators of the data systems that provide clean, regular, and accurate data. A data engineer understands how data and an organisation’s data architecture is essential to business outcomes.
A data engineer gathers requirements for data solutions, and demonstrates and articulate data solutions to stakeholders in a way that can be easily understood. Data engineering encompasses a range of activities from collecting data to employing various data processing frameworks, including but not limited to ETL (Extract, Transform, Load), and collaborating with data scientists and other data-centric roles.
This apprenticeship explores all these facets of the role and the modules you'll study - such as building data systems, stakeholder solutions, and data governance and policies - will provide you with the core skills and knowledge required to pursue a career as a data engineer.

An apprenticeship offers a unique blend of work experience and academic study. Candidates on an apprenticeship will work a paid job while simultaneously working towards a relevant qualification in their chosen field.
Apprentices are employees with a contract of employment that must cover the duration of the programme being studied. Apprentices have guaranteed time from their employer to complete their studies, at a minimum of six hours a week, known as off-the-job training hours. The University will provide each apprentice with a tracker to ensure these off the job hours are logged to demonstrate compliance with this funding rule.
