About the course

This dedicated foundation year delivers a solid grounding in the fundamentals of academic study, as well as in the foundations of the tourism and events industries – providing a smooth progression onto the degree of your choice in festivals, event, travel and tourism or airline and airport management.

This course is now closed for 2020 entry. Why not have a look at our other courses?

An essential stepping stone on your tourism or events career, the course delivers a broad foundation that covers business, management, and more industry-specific topics, taught by active and experienced experts from a range of relevant disciplines, who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and experience with you. You will explore real scenarios and case studies, and learn to apply the theory you learn in order to analyse problems and develop practical, real-world solutions.

And when you progress onto one of our specialist degrees, you will have plenty of options to develop first-hand practical experience in your chosen industry – from designing and delivering events to embedded work placements with local or international organisations, and more.

Festivals and events students had exciting CV enhancing paid placements at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Leeds, Reading, Latitude and more in 2019, while tourism students get to take part in a cruise as part of their course.

We have strong links with major events, hospitality and tourism-related employers such as LiveNation, Cunard, Glastonbury Festival, Carnival P&O, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, and local and national airports – while our in-house student led and student run events management agency, Solent Works, offers plenty of chances for events students to polish their professional skills and build a network of professional connections in the real world.

After successfully completing your studies, there's an opportunity to continue your studies at Solent.
