Sports therapy suites

Our modern sports therapy treatment suites create a great space for teaching and learning. These large spacious rooms are equipped with couches and various sports therapy equipment for treatment and rehabilitation.

First aid or sports rehab equipment can also be used.

The Spark building combines interactive teaching spaces with lecture theatres and an atrium with social spaces. Central to the building is the futuristic Pod, which has a full-size lecture theatre and open-topped breakout space.

Our physiology laboratory is officially accredited by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), marking it as one of the UK’s leading sport and exercise science facilities. As well as being a teaching and research building our Sports Complex has three gyms, fitness studios and multi-purpose and performance sports halls, which are open to everyone. Our multi-purpose sports hall can be used for basketball, futsal, badminton, netball, wheelchair rugby and volleyball. Our performance sports hall is specifically for basketball and is where Team Solent Kestrels home games are held, supported by our sports and exercise therapy students.

Course information - Graduation cost (default)

There is no charge to attend graduation, but you will be required to pay for the rental of your academic gown (approximately &pound;45 per graduate, depending on your award). You may also wish to purchase official photography packages, which range in price from &pound;15 to &pound;200+. Graduation is not compulsory, so if you prefer to have your award sent to you, there is no cost. Extra guest tickets will go on sale after results publication and will be sold on a first-come-first-served basis. The cost per ticket is currently &pound;15. Please note, we do not guarantee there will be any extra tickets available to purchase.

Course information - How to apply - UG (default)

Full-time
Any student applying for the first year of a full-time/sandwich undergraduate course must apply through UCAS (University and Colleges Admissions Service). This includes mature, overseas and EU students.
Nearly all schools and colleges offer their students the facility of applying electronically through the UCAS website using 'Apply'; it may also be used by those applying independently in the UK and overseas. This facility and all course information can be found on the UCAS website: <a title="UCAS website" href="http://www.ucas.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">www.ucas.com</a>.
Your application should reach UCAS by 31 January if you hope to enter a course the following autumn. Early application is advised for the most popular subject areas. Late applications may be made until the end of June. The UCAS Code for the University is S30, code name SOLNT.

Solent endeavours to offer learning opportunities to students from all backgrounds. When we receive and review an application, we take into consideration the context and personal circumstances of applicants when making a decision, which means our advertised entry tariff could be reduced.

Freelance personal trainers can expect to earn between &pound;20 and &pound;40 an hour. Some locations and high-profile clients make it possible to earn up to around &pound;50 to &pound;75 per hour. A full-time personal trainer with a good client base may be able to achieve an annual income of circa &pound;30,000 to 40,000 depending on experience and location.

If you work in a clinic, salaries start at around &pound;18,000. With experience this can rise to in the region of &pound;30,000. Work within the private sector typically pays more and you could earn &pound;40,000 to &pound;45,000 in some private clinics or with professional teams.&nbsp;

You'll have the opportunity to acquire industry-specific fitness (REPs) and discounted coaching (NGB) qualifications as you study. The broad, practical subjects you&rsquo;ll study will help build a strong foundation for an exciting career.

It comprises the threshold knowledge we consider our students need to actively engage and proactively participate in our vibrant and active campus-based collaborative learning events. Directed learning is generally delivered online, providing you with resources you can refer to anytime you wish to.

Collaborative learning refers to our exciting campus-based learning events which comprise flipped-learning, participative, interactive, rich, problem-based and active learning activities. These may take place in collaborative classroom environments, or in specialist learning facilities, or labs, using state-of-the-art equipment. Whatever their physical setting, group work predominates these learning events with rich and varied opportunities for peer exchange and peer-to-peer learning.

Nutrition lab

Facilities include specialist BASES-accredited laboratories (physiology, biomechanics and psychology), and to the state-of-the-art sports complex, with fitness studios, sports halls and specialist gyms. 

The biomedical laboratories are comprehensively equipped with laminar flow hood and incubators for microbiological work, spectrophotometers for analytical biochemistry, PCR and gel electrophoresis running/imaging systems for molecular biology, and a range of microscopes for cell biology and pathology.

Test Park sports ground

The University’s professional sport and exercise science facilities, include fully equipped physiology, psychology and biomechanics labs, health and exercise gyms and sport and exercise therapy teaching spaces. 

The first-class sport, exercise and psychology facilities include specialist software, psychophysiological recording equipment, eye-tracking apparatus and experiment cubicles. 
Students can also practise their skills in Solent’s state-of-the-art Sports Complex.
