Southampton Solent University’s Engineering Poster Day 2026 brought together final-year students, industry leaders and academic experts in a dynamic showcase of innovation, creative problem solving and career-ready engineering talent.
This year’s event demonstrated the strength of Solent’s industry-focused approach, with students presenting their final projects to employers, industry advisory board members and sector specialists. Throughout the day, students exchanged ideas, built professional connections and explored a wide range of career opportunities with potential employers and industry partners.
Poster Day challenges final-year engineering students to communicate complex engineering concepts with clarity and confidence – a vital skill for today’s competitive engineering landscape. By engaging directly with industry, participants strengthen not only their technical expertise but also the interpersonal and professional capabilities that employers value most.
Industry Awards 2026
Outstanding student achievement was recognised through a series of industry-linked awards:
Automate-BEST Innovation Award
Zestec / Industry Excellence in Renewable Energy Engineering Prize
As well as showcasing their knowledge, skills and creativity, the event provides a platform from which final-year students are able to launch their engineering careers. One student secured a job offer on the day, while others were invited to company site visits to discuss potential career opportunities.
Inspired by the event and the skills and talent being showcased by the students, additional employers have already expressed interest in sponsoring future awards and contributing live project briefs.
By connecting students directly with industry, Solent University continues to create meaningful opportunities for hands-on experience, professional networking and employer engagement, ensuring graduates leave not only with a degree, but with the skills, confidence and connections to build successful careers.
Dr Marc Molinari, Deputy Dean (Education) for Science and Engineering courses in the School of Technology and Maritime Industries, commented:
“Engineering Poster Day is a powerful example of how we prepare our students for the realities of industry. By presenting their work to employers and professionals, they gain invaluable experience in communicating ideas, building confidence and making connections that can shape their careers. From job offers to new industry partnerships, the outcomes of these events demonstrate the real impact of creating these opportunities.”
