Southampton Solent University has climbed 11 places in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025 and come in the top 20% nationally across several subject areas for teaching quality.
Following success in The Guardian University Guide, where law and interior design subjects ranked highly, Solent is now celebrating its jump from 131 to 98 in the latest league table results. When it comes to teaching quality, law, music, and communications and media subjects have all been featured within the top 10 nationally.
Students and graduates have also had their say, marking their experience at Solent highly. Music, communications and media subjects, drama, dance and cinematics, and law are all in the top 20 for student experience at universities across the UK. Pro Vice Chancellor for Education, Professor Sarah Jones, says:
"We are proud of our improvements in this year's The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide which demonstrate the excellent teaching and learning we offer our students. This recognition - with our teaching quality being in the top 20% of universities - is testament to the commitment of our staff, as well as the high quality of our facilities."
Regionally, Solent's success continues, ranking third locally for teaching quality. This result follows on from a triple gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework, which signals typically outstanding teaching and student outcomes.
The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide collates data from a range of sources to compile its annual league table. From the ratio of staff to students, the progression from first year to second, and graduate outcomes, to feedback provided via the National Student Survey, the guide considers a range of factors to guide prospective students and their families when it comes to making choices about higher education.
Across all subject areas at Solent, students embrace practical, future-ready learning. From the latest technology - including the Hollywood standard Virtual Production Stage - to simulated learning - this includes two Human Health Labs which replicate hospital wards, boosting the skills of student nurses - the University gives learners a suite of skills and knowledge to hit the ground running in their careers.
