Southampton Solent University has been named the best university in Hampshire for Learning Opportunities, Teaching on My Course, Assessment and Feedback, and Academic Support in the latest National Student Survey (NSS) results.
With a record number of final-year students taking part, the survey reflects an overwhelmingly positive student experience at Solent. The university improved its scores in nine out of ten key categories, including mental wellbeing support and learning resources, placing it above the sector average in 80% of key areas measured.
These outstanding results further cement Solent’s position as a leader in student-centred education and underscore the institution’s commitment to teaching quality, academic support, and continuous improvement.
Professor James Knowles, Vice-Chancellor of Solent University, said:
"These results are a direct reflection of the commitment and passion of our academic and professional services staff, who work tirelessly to support our students throughout their journey.
“It’s an important milestone as we continue to deliver on our mission of being an inclusive, practice-led university with real-world impact."
Professor Sarah Jones, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), added:
"We’re particularly proud to see such high ratings in the areas that matter most to our students – teaching, support, and opportunities for learning.
“These scores affirm the effectiveness of our approach and demonstrate our focus on creating a supportive and engaging environment."
Solent was awarded TEF Gold in 2023, the highest rating in the UK’s Teaching Excellence Framework, recognising its outstanding student experience and student outcomes. In the midst of the university’s graduation week, the NSS results reinforce the strengths that contributed to that success.
Across eight ceremonies, graduates from a variety of courses and fields – from engineering and sport to nursing and fine art – are currently graduating in Southampton’s Guildhall. These students contributed to the NSS across a couple of months in the Spring, via Ipsos Mori’s online platform.
Earlier this year, Solent University unveiled its ambitious 10-year strategy, aiming to become the UK’s leading practice-led university by 2035. These latest NSS results mark a significant step as the university continues work towards achieving that goal.
