Students live stream Hampshire Senior Cup Finals to thousands of fans

1 May 2026

Students from Southampton Solent University recently delivered live coverage of both the Hampshire Men’s and Women’s Senior Cup Finals, streaming the matches from AFC Totton’s Snows Stadium and bringing the action to thousands of football fans who were unable to attend in person.

Students from the University’s MA Sports Broadcast Journalism, BA Sports Journalism and BA Television Production courses worked in partnership with Hampshire FA to produce the live streams, gaining hands-on experience in a real professional broadcast environment.

The men’s final saw Basingstoke Town FC secure a 2–0 victory over Sholing, while Saints’ Women’s Under-21s claimed a 3–0 win against Bournemouth Sports Ladies in the women’s final.

The project forms part of Solent University’s commitment to ensuring students are career-ready upon graduation. Throughout the finals, students took on key broadcast roles, including operating cameras, managing audio, and leading production responsibilities across the live streams.

Deputy Dean of the School of Creative Industries, Will Cope, said:

“Providing students with real-world opportunities like this is central to our teaching philosophy. Working on high-profile live sporting events allows our students to develop their technical skills, teamwork and professionalism, while producing content that delivers real value to the sporting community.”

The matches marked the latest example of students from Solent’s School of Creative Industries showcasing their talents. Recently, students also produced the Royal Television Society’s Southern Awards at the Utilita Bowl, where their work received praise from BBC and ITV journalism professionals for the high level of professionalism demonstrated throughout the event.

Isabella Pearson, Commercial Manager of the Hampshire FA added:

“The finals have never looked so good. By working alongside Solent University, we’ve been able to support the many members who cannot make the time or travel the distance to attend in person. Giving them the opportunity to tune in and see the finals in action has significantly increased the appeal of following the games and the competition. We hope this partnership continues to strengthen for many, many years ahead.”

Students within Solent University’s School of Creative Industries benefit from access to an extensive range of industry-standard equipment and state-of-the-art facilities. Teaching staff also bring substantial professional experience from across journalism, broadcasting and the performing arts, ensuring students learn from those with first-hand industry knowledge.
