On the way up

26th September 2016

The publication of this year’s Sunday Times Good University completes Southampton Solent’s improving position in all of the major league tables this year.

Solent has climbed five places taking it to 110 out of 128 institutions, compared to 115 out of 127 last year.

The strongest measures for the University were student experience, teaching quality, student-staff ratio, good honours, and services and facilities spend.

The strongest performing areas are communication and media studies, English and sports science. Solent’s English subject areas were ranked first in the Good University Guide for teaching quality.

The last year has also seen us achieve significant rises in the other major league tables. We rose from 122 to 115 in the Complete University Guide (CUG); climbed 14 places to reach number 100 in the Guardian tables; and took a top-100 position in the 2016 Whatuni Student Choice Awards.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Baldwin says: “There is still a lot of work to do but, these year-on-year improvements highlight the great strides the University continues to make."
