Every year, a progression event takes place for students on the Business Foundation course. Students have the opportunity to network with course leaders from different disciplines about the undergraduate programmes, to ensure they make the right decision for them on which degree they go on to study.

With more than 60,000 alumni worldwide, many of our successful graduates are invited back to act as guest speakers. They come from a wide range of sectors, including accounting and finance, HR, hospitality, retail, and property.

One notable alumnus, Rashidul Islam, delivered a motivational presentation to the foundation students about his experience at Solent, and went into detail on how he contributed to the rapid expansion of Southampton’s dessert bar, Sprinkles Gelato, nationwide.

Having studied LLB (Hons) Law, he says: “My role is an in-house legal counsel and business development manager, so I am still practising as a lawyer and using my transferable skills to grow the business.”

Of Solent, he adds: “The teaching is very good as well as the facilities – having visited the uni to give my presentation, it seems to have improved! Those who studied with me have gone onto better things.”

Current students on the Business Foundation course take part in study skills sessions that focus on the key transferable skills that employers are looking for: communication, basic research, group work, IT, maths, and presentation skills. This is only one of the reasons Solent attributes to our 95% graduate employability rate, a figure we’re constantly trying to improve.
