The arrival of the Honest Café, which can be found in the Sir Christopher Cockerell Building, has made Southampton Solent the first UK University to provide a healthy vending café to its students.
Customers can expect Fairtrade tea and coffee, fruit and vegetable based snacks and naturally refreshing drinks, all at a reasonable price. Locally sourced, low calorie, organic grub is what it’s all about, and those of you who are looking for some pre-lecture nutrition won’t be left disappointed.
The vending cafe is the brainchild of Sodexo who, as well as being the University’s catering partner, are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle by making healthy alternatives easy to find on campus.
The vending machines themselves, which include touch screens, product promotions and card payments, were provided by local company Revive Vending. Revive will be donating a portion of all revenues to EdUKaid, a charity seeking to improve the lives of children living in rural Tanzania.
Bryan Carroll, Deputy Director of Estates at Facilities at Southampton Solent says: “It’s great to see the ‘Honest Café’ installed. The University and Sodexo have been champions of promoting innovative, ethical and healthy food choices on campus for a number of years. The vending options will never be quite the same again.”
