Multi-award winning beauty journalist, blogger, director and producer, Ateh Jewel has been awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Media by Solent University today. "I am so thrilled and honoured. It's been one of the best things to happen in my career, my life! I am so deeply touched and humbled." Ateh said.

Ateh has been a beauty journalist for 17 years, writing for titles such as Vogue, Sunday Times Style and Guardian Weekend Magazine. She was a Marie Claire columnist for two years, talking about beauty for all skin tones in her Colour Counter column.

Ateh went on to co-found digital production agency, Couture Communications, creating short films and content for brands such as L'Oreal, Chanel, Dior, Clinique, Estee Lauder group, and P&G, as well as filming at Milan and London Fashion Weeks for brands such as Vivienne Westwood, Max Mara and Mathew Williamson.

She is also a multi award-winning producer. Her short films include Drone, starring Wonder Woman and Trainspotting's Ewen Bremmer, and The Secret World of Foley, which has won several awards at film festivals around the world, as well as being a viral hit with over 150 million views to date.

Ateh has also just signed a development deal for her first feature film with Creative England, and is in pre-production on the short of the feature, which will shoot this year.

A huge champion of diversity, she has her own award-winning blog for women and men with darker skin tones and textured hair called www.jeweltonesbeauty.com.

Ateh visits Solent regularly as a guest lecturer, speaker and leader of workshops looking at careers in media and beauty.

Ateh adds, "My advice for students entering the workplace is, be humble, be kind, be loyal, work hard, stay focussed and always follow your passion because that's what is going to get you through the tough times and the fun times. You've got one life to live, just go for it and make it happen!"
