'Extraordinary' students present at UEFA conference

Football studies graduate Mike Dixon and current third year student Lukasz Stupka presented at a UEFA football development conference in Krakow, Poland recently and were described as "extraordinary" by conference organisers who wrote to Solent University to thank the students for their contributions. Reflecting on the students' involvement in the conference, course leader and LMCFR director, Dr Richard Elliott said: "I was delighted to receive the letter from the conference organisers praising Mike and Lukasz for the quality of their contributions. I think this speaks volumes with regard to the preparation that our students receive while studying with us, and the broader contributions they go on to make to football development in various parts of the world."

Solent working with Woking

Being aware of Solent University's reputation for providing well qualified staff to professional clubs, Conference Premier club Woking FC decided to approach the University when they were looking for a new sales and marketing intern. Having a number of excellent football studies and business students to select from, the club offered the role to third year student Ben Barry. Ben, who will work at the club for two days a week while he completes his final year at the University, will work on a range of sales and marketing initiatives. Football studies and business course leader and LMCFR director, Dr Richard Elliott said of the appointment: "I'm really pleased that Ben has been awarded this internship. These schemes provide our students with vital experience in professional football clubs. Experience that, when coupled with their degree, puts them in the best possible position to secure a full-time post at a Premier League or Football league club when they graduate."
