Big or small, this 2012 exhibition explored the relevance and effectiveness of a work of art in conveying change.
Change the World or Go Home (2012) was the first exhibition at Solent Showcase Gallery that set out a new intention for curatorial activism and a desire to bring together work that was exploring and highlighting contemporary issues through an artistic lens.
Co-curated by Kate Maple and artist Craig Barnes, the exhibition deliberately set out to explore what the artist’s role in contemporary society might be. Eleven artists were chosen who all questioned their place within a modern, complex and rapidly changing world where many artists can struggle to find their role and purpose. The artists are predominantly asking questions about art, authority, and society as a whole.
