BA (Hons) Architectural Design and Technology
Graduated 2018
I’m currently an architectural technologist. A typical day for me includes working on construction details, setting up sections for structural engineers and other consultants to review, and liaising with consultants to get the project moving forward, to enable it to move from concept to completion.
My studies at Solent gave me a really big push – I wouldn’t have known a lot coming into industry if I hadn’t learnt the things I did at Solent. Unlike other universities, Solent gives you a lot of industry experience while you are actually studying, rather than prioritising academic studies. It prepares you really well, to the point that I felt comfortable the moment I started working at a practice.
My favourite memory from my time at Solent was my final major project. It was the most independent unit out of all of them and allowed me to add my own design concepts and my own technical experience. It gave me a lot more freedom and enabled me to open up my creative side, ready for graduation.
Learn everything you can while at university – it’s a great step for your career in the future, and the industry gets better and better as you go along.
