Biography
Dr Arif Hussain is a lecturer in marine engineering in Solent University's Warsash Maritime School.
He attained his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Kent under the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship in 2021. His PhD research focused to develop machine learning-based data-driven models to optimise the performance of mechanical metamaterials. By leveraging computational techniques like finite element analysis and neural networks, he seeks to design materials that not only have robust mechanical properties but are also suited for real-world applications such as automotive and biomedical devices.
After completing his PhD, Arif joined Solent University as a lecturer. Before this, he was a teaching assistant at the University of Kent where he taught mechanical engineering modules to undergraduate students. He also mentored an MSc by research student in mechanical engineering, providing guidance and support throughout their research.
Further information
Arif worked as a research assistant on the AKT2I project, where he focused on 3D solid mechanics and CFD modelling of a PEM water electrolyser cell stack.
