Biography

Bethan Humphries is a Lecturer in interior design decoration and interior design architecture at Solent University, where she teaches across all four levels and leads both modules and year groups. She is passionate about creating an engaging, supportive learning environment that helps students build confidence and connect their ideas to real-world practice.

Bethan’s teaching is grounded in curiosity, collaboration, and the belief that design should be accessible to everyone. She enjoys guiding students at every stage of their journey, from early explorations of materiality, space, and concept development to the more refined and professional focus of the final year. She encourages students to think critically, communicate clearly, and design with purpose.

Her research interests sit at the intersection of technology, learning, and inclusivity. She is particularly focused on how artificial intelligence and virtual reality can help students better understand scale and spatial relationships, offering a more immersive way to test ideas before they are built. Bethan is also exploring how emerging tools, including AI, can support more intuitive teaching methods that help learners engage with complex design challenges in new ways.

Beyond her academic work, Bethan has designed multimillion-pound homes and has collaborated on diverse projects, ranging from residential properties and athletic club renovations to visual merchandising and styling.

Above all, Bethan is driven by a genuine passion for design and a commitment to helping students realise their potential, wherever their creative paths may lead.
