Charlotte Logue

Charlotte joined Solent University full-time in 2020 to teach on the BA (Hons) Make-up and Hair Design and BA (Hons) Prosthetics and Special Effects Design courses. Her previous teaching experience includes Fashion Management with Marketing, (Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton), exploring contemporary fashion imagery, styling, photography and research methodologies to introduce students to the contextual, evaluative and creative processes essential to brand marketing.

In addition, Charlotte is an external examiner for New College Swindon’s Advanced Make-Up, Hair and Prosthetics course since 2023, supporting the development of research skills, professional practice and academic contexts.

Charlotte’s research interests explore alternative perspectives of beauty and aesthetics, often through the application of esoteric and naturopathic lens.

Closely informed by social history, feminine identity and the arts, her work discusses the deeper role that beauty plays in establishing connections to the human experience. The core intention is to move perspectives of beauty and the cosmetic body beyond superficial interpretations. This is achieved by combining esoteric themes and ideologies with contemporary theory drawn from modern psychology and visual culture. The nature of this research explores how beauty practice lends itself as a powerful tool for crafting one’s identity and redefining societal constructs. Ideologies that are innately intertwined with and continue to alter our understanding of the self and empowerment.

Charlotte also works alongside her students on the curation and management of GUNK (@gunk_collective and @gunk_pro), a multi-media platform showcasing Solent University’s undergraduates in make-up, hair, prosthetics and special effects. The platform provides students with an externally-facing opportunity to curate diverse creative content including imagery, video podcasts, and live events. In addition, Charlotte manages students as part of the GUNKPRO team, a professional make-up and hair team that work in industry for a variety of live fashion events including Graduate Fashion Week and London Fashion Week.
