Biography

James has over 20 years’ experience in exercise, fitness and health, both as an educator and industry professional, specialising in fitness instruction, personal training, sports massage, exercise referral, leisure management and as a CHEK exercise professional.

His research is focused on three areas, the principles and fundamentals of fitness professional education, the philosophy of sport and sports education, and Lifeguarding and water safety. He also support students through the University’s real world learning project ’Solent PT’, as well as numerous sector specific vocational qualifications Gym instructor, Personal trainer, Advanced Personal trainer & Sports massage.

James has extensive experience across a number of roles within the health and leisure sector including, Leisure/ Facility management, Personal trainer, Corrective exercise coach, Gym instructor, Fitness manager, Exercise referral coordinator, Lifeguard, Swimming teaching and Lifeguard / First aid trainer assessor.
