Biography
Dr Kamran Qureshi is an acclaimed British film and television director and a distinguished media scholar. He holds the esteemed title of Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), underscoring his commitment to advancing teaching and learning practices in higher education.
At Southampton Solent University, Kamran serves as a senior lecturer in film production. He teaches and supervises research dissertations for film, television, and media students and is Director of Studies for a PhD research project. In addition, he is part of the mentoring and assessment team for the Advance HE Fellowship cohorts at Solent and has contributed as a working group member for the Solent Learning, Teaching and Research Conference.
Kamran earned his PhD in Professional Practice in Film, Television, and Media. He subsequently conducted postdoctoral research on the Anglia Film Studios Project at the School of Art, Media, and American Studies, University of East Anglia. He is also the author of the book Fiction Feature Filmmaking, published by the global academic publisher Springer Nature
Research interests
Kamran’s research interests stem from his 30 years of experience as a film and television practitioner, complemented by his academic studies. His areas of focus include Hollywood, British, and Australian films, television, media practice, gender, legislation, and the representation of intersex people. At Solent University, he is an active member of several research groups, including Contemporary Screen Studies, Identities and Inequalities, and Music, Creativity, and the Cultural Economy.

Kamran has been working in film and TV for over 30 years. He directed many award-winning TV drama serials and TV shows.
His new feature film Only Love Matters (2023) has done well on the film festival circuit and has won over 30 awards including Best Director, Best Producer, Best Feature Film, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Romantic film, and Best Women film. Kamran exploited multiple opportunities to create awareness internationally about intersex and their issues by publicly speaking in interviews on many media platforms including BBC One TV, BBC Radio, BBC News, That’s TV UK, Canada One TV, PTV News, podcasts, live TV transmissions and digital news. He is the former communication editor at CHASE’s Brief Encounters Postgraduate Journal for issue 4 (2019-2020) and also a governor at the Council of Governors at the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (2018-2020), London, UK. Kamran is a founding member of Evergreen Media Europe (1999) and KQ Movies (2018) London, UK.
He was a coordinator of the Green Film Festival @UEA 2022, an annual environmentally-themed film festival, which holds film screenings, workshops, speeches, and other events, supported by the Global Research Translation Award (GRTA) funded by United Kingdom Research and Innovation (UKRI). Kamran was also a UEA (University of East Anglia) local lead for the UK reproducibility network (UKRN) to raise awareness about data sharing and open research and reproducibility.
